Residents of Seme sub-county have heartily welcomed the construction of a Kshs.200M Medical Training Center (MTC) in their locality which happens to be the first college ever in the area with H.E.Jack Ranguma laying the foundation stone for the institution.

The occasion was graced by several guests including the County’s Governor H.E.Jack Ranguma, Hon. Any’ang Nyong’o, Senator, Hon.James Nyikal, area Member of Parliament (M.P.), Members of the County Assembly (MCAs), the medical fraternity and members of the community.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony at Kombewa, Dr. Ogaja, County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Health urged the community to work with the county government to build and support the upcoming MTC for their benefit.

‘Once complete, not only students will benefit but also, the local community as more of our healthcare practitioners will be able to upgrade their skills and in turn, we will have more qualified caregivers in our county’s health facilities offering a wide range of medical services,’ said Dr. Ogaja.

On his part, the Governor commended the department of health for the step they took in the construction of an MTC in the county and pledged to work with the National Government to establish more training institutions in the county by providing land for their construction.

‘As the Council of Governors Health committee, we have secured Kshs.1.9Billion from U.S. donors that will ultimately boost primary healthcare in the country and we are doing all we can to get more resources for the sector which is a fully devolved function,’ said the Governor.

Once complete, the county will be granted 30% slots for students admitted into the medical school. It is expected that the training institute be complete by September this year.
