The County Government through Nutrition Section,Department of Health, has embraced kitchen gardening as a practice that would contribute to modern farming that is significant to food and nutrition security. With support from Kenya Integrated Water,Sanitation and Hygiene Project (KIWASH) a total of 287 households across Kisumu county have so far benefited from the Kitchen garden initiative. 

H.E Governor Jack Ranguma in liaison with the department of health pushed for promotion of kitchen gardening across the county,with an aim of improving nutritional status and transforming eating habits of Kisumu residents. “My dream is to have every household in Kisumu county to have a kitchen garden that will form positive food habits and nutrition,through an experience-based kitchen garden.” Says Governor Ranguma.
